The JayBird headset doesnt work with my PC laptop Computer

A JayBird user located this article online that got his JayBird headset working with his computer. Several other Jaybird customers have also found this useful when faced with the same problem. JayBird Gear LLC has not tested this and is not making any recommendation do follow these instructions however our customers have found it works well ...

-------

"Some headphones don't support Secure Connections.

Turn off the Secure Connection option because the audio is sent unencrypted. In Windows XP, you have a checkbox for this on each device's properties tab. Broadcom's stack in Windows Vista enables encryption by default and the only way to turn it off is to edit the registry.

If you've tried restarting both your headphones and Vista several times, repaired them and still can't get them to connect, press START+R, type regedt32 and press Enter to bring up the registry editor. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWidcommBTConfigApplications, look through all the subkeys to find the one with a Name key of Stereo Audio (0013 in my case), and change the Encryption subkey from 1 to 0. If you want to be thorough, you can also repeat this for the keys with name subkeys of Headset, Audio Gateway and Hands-free Audio, then repeat the same again for the BTConfigServices tree.

Close the registry editor, restart Broadcom's Bluetooth stack (a nice way to do this is to pull your Bluetooth adapter out and in again, or press the Bluetooth radio toggle button on your laptop) and try to connect with your headphones again."

JayBird Gear LLC has not tested this and is not making any recommendation do follow the instructions shown above.

While the range of Bluetooth is 10 meters (33 feet), the optimal range FOR ANY BRAND OF BLUETOOTH STEREO DEVICE is 2 feet from the music device, particularly outdoors when the signal cannot bounce off walls and ceilings. THIS RULE APPLIES TO ANY BRAND OF BLUETOOTH STEREO DEVICE. For the JayBird brand headset, the headset antenna is located in the right-side earpiece so make sure your device is above your elbow and on your right side for optimal connectivity to your headset while streaming music outdoors. This will help in avoiding signal drop outs.

Additionally, water and sweat can interfere with Bluetooth radio signal FOR ANY BRAND OF BLUETOOTH STEREO DEVICE. Make sure that there is no sweat in direct contact with the Bluetooth Adapter. Make sure the adapter is not in direct contact with skin when exercising and that it is on the outside of any clothing (e.g. if using the iPod or JayBird armband, use it over the top of your clothing)

JayBird recommends the use of armbands for your music device to keep the device and Bluetooth adapter within optimal range and separated from your skin during workouts. JayBird offers an armband for the iPod nano 3G. More armbands coming by end of 2008. You can email armbands@jaybirdgear.com to be alerted when more armbands are available.

Can I use the Universal Bluetooth Adapter for MP3 with my iPod?

Yes you can use the Universal Bluetooth Adapter with your iPod.

Positives:

1. Has it's own battery so it does not draw power from your iPod

Negatives:

1. double the size of the Bluetooth Adapter for iPod (due to battery)
2. Does not permit AVRCP controls (play, pause, next, back track) to be used on the headset since it's communication via the headphone jack port which can only send sound, not instructions.
3. Cannot be used with armbands because adapter sticks out to the right side of your iPod a little

Users have reported the following: The Garmin Zumo 550 does NOT transmit in stereo via bluetooth. You need to add the MP3 adapter in order to get stereo (MP3's or XM) from the Garmin. To use the phone through the Garmin, you need to pair the phone with the Garmin then pair the Jaybird with the Garmin as well as with the MP3 adapter. This will allow you to use the Jaybird (in stereo) to listen to MP3's or XM while also using it (in mono) to deal with the phone.

Does the JayBird work with Playstation?

See the following excellent concise commentary: Sony Playstation & Bluetooth Headsets

Essentially:

1. we have tested the JB-200 and it pairs successfully with the PS3. You can use the JayBird JB-200 for voice chat through Playstation. Regarding chat within Games you'll need to check each game user manual for availability of that functionality in the game software.
2. The actual game audio and music is played through the TV or stereo receiver only so you'll need the JayBird Bluetooth Adapter for MP3 for the headphone jack of your audio device.

Only one speaker is working / I hear sounds through one speaker only

Just like other brands of Bluetooth Stereo Headsets, the JB-200 mutes the right side speaker for calls to avoid feedback with the mic. If you are experiencing this with CALLS this is normal and designed to be so. If you experience this with MUSIC on your phone (especially some European Nokia phones) it is a compatibility issue with your phone.

Please also note it is illegal in some areas of the world (including California USA) to drive a vehicle with a two ears covered by headphone/headset speakers. For your safety JayBird also discourages use of the JayBird headset while driving.

Whenever I move the mouse cursor, the audio cuts out

This cutting out is a result of your headset and mouse competing for Bluetooth bandwidth through the A2DP connection on your computer. The best way to resolve the issue is to use the JB-BA-100m Universal Bluetooth Adapter. It separates the headset from the internal bluetooth connection and will resolve the cutting out issue. The downside is that you lose the AVRCP functionality when connecting through a headphone jack. Play, pause, next, back track must be controlled from the computer, instead of the headset.

Purchase from: the online store

Can I cut the cord or wire between the two earpieces on the headset?

No. The behind the head cord connects the battery (left side) to the Bluetooth electronics (right side). It also provides additional security to the fit and avoids loss of one side of the headset.

JayBird originally worked hard to develop the product without the cord however eliminating the cord means having a battery in both earpieces (left AND right) and to maintain the 6 hour battery life on Bluetooth technology expected by the market today the earpieces would be DOUBLE the current size making them heavy, non-secure, and too large to be cool.

I have a HTC touch Cruise phone-I have paired the jaybird but cannot get music through the headphones, however there is music from the phone speaker.

Delete/remove existing paired JB200, turn the JB-200 off and then on, and create a new pair. This will also release the JayBird headset of any other stereo A2DP connection it may have with other device or adapter. This rule applies to any phone.

What is the life expectancy for the batteries? How many charge cycles? Can the batteries be replaced if they go bad?

Use with Apple Mac, iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, Leopard A2DP

Signal drop outs: You MAY experience skipping/dropping out of signal if multiple bluetooth devices are connected to the Mac. This is a result of more than device competing for Bluetooth bandwidth (example bluetooth keyboard, bluetooth mouse and JayBird headset). Stereo music requires a great amount of bluetooth bandwidth and is sensitive to choppy signal otherwise not noticed by the user on other devices.

Fix:

a) Turn off other Bluetooth devices so the Mac A2DP connection can handle the bandwidth requirement of stereo music to the headset without other interuption from other devices. If you are using a bluetooth keyboard or mouse, consider a wired keyword/mouse setup if you wish to listen to stereo music via a bluetooth stereo headset. This option lets you use the JayBird headset for listening to music and for voice with VoIP applications like Skype. You also have full access to the AVRCP controls for play/pause/next track/back track.

b) Alternatively, using the JayBird Universal Bluetooth Adapter (JB-BA-100m) creates it's own bluetooth connection separate from the Mac's bluetooth connection. This eliminates competition for the Mac's A2DP bluetooth bandwidth with other bluetooth devices enabling you to use the JayBird headset for listening to music on a separate connection and still use other bluetooth devices without impacting on the performance of the stereo music signal. The downside is that the JB-BA-100m adapter runs through the headphone jack wich does not permit AVRCP music controls to be used and also does not transmit voice for VoIP/Skype.

Poor Quality or "dirty" sound: You may occasionally get an obvious "dirty" signal of very poor quality. This seams to be something to do with the Mac's A2DP connection and ability to prioritize the bandwidth intensive stereo bluetooth connection above less demanding simpler bluetooth products like keyboards and mice.

Fix:

1. Disconnect / turn off all bluetooth devices from the Mac
2. Unpair the JayBird headset (remove/delete the JayBird headset from your bluetooth devices)
2. Pair the JayBird headset before all other bluetooth devices are turned back on so it has first priority
4. Reconnect all other Bluetooth devices

This will prioritize the bandwidth to the JayBird headset before your other devices resulting a better audio experience. If you experience the same problem again, just turn off your other bluetooth devices before turning on your JayBird headset. This will place the headset first in line for bandwidth. If the above does not resolve the problem follow the same steps but also unpair ALL devices in step 1.

Computer Shut Down when using with Skype

Some users also experienced computer shutdown when using multiple bluetooth devices and JayBird headset while talking on Skype. If you experience this, turn the other bluetooth devices off while talking on Skype with a bluetooth headset.

Note that you may need to check and make sure the bluetooth settings for your bluetooth device (access via the bluetooth icon in top right of screen) are set to "Use Headphones" for music and "Use Headset" for Skype.

Can I use the JayBird for dictation / voice recording with PC or other device?

If your device is bluetooth enabled you will be able to use the JayBird as the mic, yes. If you need a bluetooth adapter to enable bluetooth with your device you will not be able to use the JayBird's mic for dictation or voice recording.

The 30 pin connector is the connection you use to charge and sync your iPod located at the base of the iPod. The JayBird products also work well with the new nano armband turned upside down so the iPod opening faces up allowing the JayBird Bluetooth Adapter for iPod to protrude out of the opening. JayBird will be releasing an armband similar to the Apple armband that caters to the iPod nano & JayBird adapter combo, which is slightly longer than the Nike+IPod length. To be notified of this product release join our emailing list on the contact page. We do not sell your information to others.

Is the charger included with the headset?

Yes, the headset includes one charger. You may purchase a second charger for work or travel in the online store.

How do I get the best fit?

For your first fitting, stand in front of a mirror. Put the first earpiece on using both hands sliding it down the side of your head and onto your ear making sure the headset sits firm and snug against your head, not somewhere on top of your ear away from your head (IMPORTANT). Will the JayBird products work with Bluetooth phones?

Yes the JayBird products are compatible with Bluetooth phones. Phone Calls: The JayBird headset works as a headset for phone calls with any Bluetooth phone, including iPhone. Stereo Music: In order to stream stereo sound from a mobile phone, that mobile phone must have A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). If your mobile phone has A2DP it may then work with the JayBird Bluetooth Stereo Headset. Every Bluetooth Stereo Headset and every Bluetooth A2DP mobile phone has it's own level of compatibility with each other based on the Bluetooth chip set version and software configuration in each device. While Jaybird has not tested all A2DP phones on the market, almost all of the North American A2DP phones were found to be compatible. - By purchasing direct from JayBird you have the confidence of a 30 day return policy incase your phone is found to be not compatible. - Click here for a list of approved A2DP phones.
