Imagine going back 10 years and telling yourself that you’d be able to measure your heart rate with a phone camera.
Well, with Cardiio, it’s now a reality.
Cardiio is an iPhone app that uses your phone’s front camera to analyze the amount of light reflected off of your face. By doing so, it’s actually measuring your pulse. And believe it or not, studies (and user reviews) show that Cardiio measurements are within 3 bpm of a clinical pulse oximeter.
It’s not magic though. The technology is based on science conducted at the MIT Media Lab. Apparently, when your heart beats, blood rushes to your face causing it to absorb more light, resulting in less light being reflected from your face.
All we know is that it works, which makes it a must-have app.

Apple will give birth to a “revolutionary” new product in just eight months, according to a well-known French designer.
Speaking with French radio and French newspaper Le Figaro, French designer Philippe Starck is claiming that he’s teamed up with the company to cook up a new product, the results of which will surface by year’s end.
As reported by blogging site Hardmac, Starck seems to have dangled just enough bait to arouse interest but was mum on specific details, citing Apple’s “religious cult of secrecy,” according to the English translation.
But he did reveal that he met in California with the late Steve Jobs once a month for seven years and that he continues to travel there to see Jobs’ widow Laurene Powell.
One obvious candidate for this revolutionary product is the much-rumored Apple television, which some analysts say could launch this year. But Hardmac speculated that it might be the remote control that would power the TV, citing this as an area where Starck and his team could contribute their design expertise. (more…)

Nobody ever cleans or disinfects their phone, so the germs and bacteria just keep building up. British researchers recently found cell phones often contain staph bacteria. But that’s not all, 16 percent of the cell phones tested contained E. coli or fecal matter.
Frequently used cell phones are warm, which makes them a great breeding ground for bacteria. And with the advent of touch-screen phones, the same part of the phone you touch with your fingertips is pressed right up against your face and mouth, upping your chances of infection. (more…)

Apple is reportedly working on a way to sync iPods with iTunes wirelessly. It’s just another step in Apple’s steady march toward making wires and cords a thing of the past.
Steve Jobs is apparently pushing hard to make the next generation iPods capable of this type of wireless sync, according to Cult of Mac‘s sources. iPods with wireless sync would make the USB cable obsolete. Instead of importing music, movies and apps through Apple’s iconic 30-pin connector, it would automatically sync whenever a user was connected to his or her Wi-Fi network.

I recently attended three stretching seminars, all taught by experienced health and fitness educators, on three consecutive weekends. One seminar focused on stretching muscles that are tight, one focused on activation for muscles that are weak, and the third dealt with how both approaches can be effective. There are many different ways to effectively stretch, so to make sense of all that information, it might be helpful to start by saying this: not everyone responds the same way to stretching, and not every body needs every stretch.

You come home from a long day at work, ready to put your feet up and relax for a while. When you open the door to find your furry friend waiting, hoping that it’s time for a walk or a game of fetch, what do you do? Do you ignore the wagging tail, those big eyes, and that look of excitement? Of course not! You decide that relaxing can wait, and you head out with Fido for a little activity.

It’s no secret that Mobile phones, while indispensable inside the modern life, have a trouble with battery longevity. I have found that in most cases, my Android mobile phone and iPhone will run out of power in the mean time they’ve fallen into sleep mode while unplugged from the wall for approximately 24 hours. This can be a bit frustrating, especially if I need the phone to operate without power for a set period of time, for example on the road trip when I neglected to pack a car charger and won’t have access to a power source for several days.

Jaybird released their update to their very successful Sportsband Bluetooth Headphones range with the release of the Sportsband 2. Monday to Friday I spend about 45 mins travelling to work one way, this includes a 5 min walk to the train station, 30 min train ride and a 10 min walk to work from the train station so most days I like to listen to music on my walks and watch a movie on the train, now I used to use cabled headsets like Jaybirds Tiger Eyes, SkullCandy, HTC and even Apple headphones, they all have one thing in common the cable. Some are great like the Tiger Eyes and SkullCandy and pump out some pure sound and some just don’t cut it – they don’t stay on or the audio sounds flat. So I was delighted to have a go at the Sportsband 2 Headphones, it eliminates the cable saga.
